MISSION STATEMENT

ORPHANS IN THE STORM

 MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Orphans In The Storm Project is simple: There are 140 million orphans in the world, and 37 million of them are homeless and living on the street. We are going to feed, clothe and educate these orphaned children so they can take control of their lives and create a happy future for themselves. At Orphans In The Storm we believe this is possible. In our current world of pessimism and the view that glasses are half empty, we prefer to see the unlimited possibilities of the future. We understand this is a daunting, some would say impossible task, but there is a way. The kick of one pebble can start an avalanche. We are kicking that pebble. Why are orphans so important? Because the children of this world are the future of our race, and if even one orphan grows up without food, shelter, education or adults to give them guidance and set an example, we are, to that degree, lost. 1 orphan left behind is a tragedy. 140 million is a social cancer slowly eating away at the human race. Basic human rights, like the right to food, shelter and education, are not only denied these children, they are not even aware that they have them. History has proven that these three basics are the backbone of any thriving, productive society. Well fed, well rested children being educated stimulates the most important and vital aspect of being human. It is that quality that separates us from every other creature on this planet. And that is… Imagination. Creativity. The ability to think of a better way to do something. To build a building, design a new mode of transportation, sing a song, create a better government, or just make a happy family. The arts drive a culture, and the leaders are the young, the creative, the innovators. These children could be the pioneers of our future, but we will never know what they are capable of unless they can create. How do we plan to provide all of this? How can so many children in so many countries be fed, clothed, housed and educated? By using those very problems in the solution. The famous Buddhist quote states: “Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime.” The most primal forms of expression and communication are music and dance. Even the most primitive cultures rely on music and dancing to communicate with.  Our plan is this: we are going to teach the orphans of the world to fish by using Human Rights education, and are doing it through the arts. To accomplish this we will be traveling around the world providing orphans with food, clothing and Human Rights education materials. This will get them to the point where they can start to find ways to solve their own problems. During these visits we will be recording orphans who sing and filming ones who dance. We will also interview them on camera and find out what it is like to be an orphan. We will also pay them for their services as any other performing artists would be. We will then give the recordings of their singing to major music stars and top world-class musicians and create an album of music, including the singing of the orphans in each song. We will simultaneously make a documentary film of the orphans singing, dancing and telling their stories. We will then take the album of music and the completed film and sell them all over the world at major outlets like Amazon.com, Starbucks, itunes and Walmart. The sales will generate many millions of dollars, which will then be put back into the mouths, the hearts and the minds of the orphans of the world on a major scale. Human rights education, steadily and continuously fed to these orphans will raise their awareness of the rights they have as human beings. This knowledge is that pebble we will be kicking, and when the children understand they have a right to live as a human being, to be free to make their own choices, to have food and shelter and freedom of speech and every other right that we have as humans, they will stop being slaves to their own ignorance. They will then have the tools needed to stand up and fight for themselves. They will no longer need our help. They will be helping us. Please, help us help them. Sincerely, David Bartlett Founder Orphans In The Storm
